Case Report: Youngest Person with Islet Amyloidosis

We reported islet amyloidosis in a 12.5-year old Caucasian female with type 1 diabetes for 2 years, representing the youngest human reported with this finding. Islet amyloidosis was considered pathognomonic for type 2 diabetes but histopathological studies from the nPOD biorepository show its presence in young donors with type 1 diabetes. Understanding how beta-cell stress is either compensated or dysregulated will provide for effective diabetes prevention  and therapeutic strategies.
